Driver Education RMV Requirements

30 hours of classroom instruction

9 BTW lessons

80 mins of driving / 40 mins of observation

2-hour orientation class for parent/guardian
Students must be at least 15.9 years old to start driver education.
To obtain a Massachusetts learner’s permit
To get a learner’s permit in Massachusetts, you’ll need to provide proof of citizenship, Social Security number, and proof of Massachusetts residency. You’ll also need to decide between a Standard driver’s license/ID and a REAL ID driver’s license/ID.
